Livestrong Day Pays Tribute to “Cancer Warriors” Across the World
Austin, TX – May 19, 2017 – In celebration of Livestrong Day, and as part of its 20th anniversary, the Livestrong Foundation will honor all those affected by cancer on Friday by commemorating its iconic yellow wristband, which has been a symbol of hope and inspiration in the fight against cancer since the Foundation opened its doors two decades ago.
Livestrong is asking participants to share a photo of themselves on social media with their wristband and the name of a “Cancer Warrior,” using the hashtags #LivestrongDay and #HonorTheFight.
Livestrong organized a one-day-only wristband giveaway in advance and received requests for over 100,000 wristbands. President Greg Lee says the incredible demand for the wristbands is a testament to Livestrong’s impact and significance:
“Livestrong is a beacon of hope for millions of people across the world affected by cancer. For 20 years, we’ve helped almost 4 million cancer patients, survivors and caregivers with their practical, physical and emotional needs through our free support services,” he said. “We are proud to continue raising awareness and fighting for cancer warriors and their loved ones, and today is about honoring their incredible strength and courage.”
Livestrong will also celebrate Livestrong Day by participating in Bike to Work Day. The Foundation’s headquarters (2201 E 6th St) will be an active site from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. offering breakfast items, coffee, Livestrong merchandise, and tribute cards to fill out in honor of loved ones affected by cancer. They will also partner with Cold Cookie Company (2512 Rio Grande St) from noon to 4 p.m., which will donate 15 percent of its sales for the day to Livestrong programs.
